The Celebration of the Centennial of the Great Union of Romania in Seoul

In the context of celebrating the Centennial of the Great Union of Romania, after the reception of the National Day, held on November 28th, our Embassy organized a complex and high-level event on November 29th in Yongsan Art Hall, in partnership with the Romanian Cultural Institute and the Yongsan-gu Office.

The cultural evening started with an exceptional Romanian Jazz concert performed by Adrian Naidin Quartet, highlighting artistic elements of folkloric inspiration. The event was attended by a large audience (about 250 people), which included representatives of cultural and academic life from the Republic of Korea, ambassadors and other members of diplomatic corps accredited in Seoul, as well as members of the Romanian community in Korea.

The original interpretative style, as well as the artistic value of the Romanian artists, captivated the Korean audience who sang along with the "Naidin Quartet" during the performance of the famous Romanian song "Ciuleandra". The surprise element in the repertoire, which electrified the audience, was the interpretation by the Romanian artists of the famous Korean song "Arirang", considered the unofficial anthem of Korea.

After the concert, a documentary-photographic exhibition titled "100 years from the Great Union" was opened in the foyer. The exhibition included 35 documents and photographs representative for the Great Union of Romania, coming from the collections of the National Archives of Romania. Each exhibit was accompanied by explanations in Romanian, English and Korean language.

At the end of the event, the Embassy of Romania offered a Vin d'honneur and a buffet of Romanian cuisine products to those present. The opinions expressed by the participants confirm that this event has reached its purpose of increasing the Romanian culture visibility in the Republic of Korea. For many of our guests, this was an opportunity to feel Romanian, despite the cultural differences.
