Romania featured in the Korean Wine Review - June 2016

Promotion of Romanian wine in at the Seoul International Wine and Spirits Expo 2016 (SIWSE 2016)

Between April 21st – 23rd 2016, COEX hosted the 14th edition of the international fair SIWSE 2016, the most important event of this nature held in the Republic of Korea.

The fair, promoted by the Wine Association in Korea and the Seoul City Hall, hosted wine and spirits producers in Europe (Romania, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Hungary and the Republic of Moldova), as well as Chile, USA, Canada, Argentina, South Africa, Bolivia, Australia and New Zeeland. Among the participants, there were also local importers and distributors of wine. Among the European countries, Italy, Greece and the Republic of Moldova participated with national pavilions.

The Romanian Economic and Commercial Promotion Bureau (BPCE) in Seoul arranged the free booth of the Embassy of Romania obtained on this occasion. Romania was represented by 3 wine producers: Senator Wine (special booth), Budureasca and Lacerta (which displayed their products in the Embassy booth). Also present at the fair, were YEONJEWEL (Borsec importer) and Globiztrade (Biborțeni importer), which chose to display their products in the Embassy booth.

Throughout SIWSE 2016 the Romanian booths were visited by a large number of south Korean company representatives and wine tastings were arranged. Premium wines were introduced, as part of both the Romanian traditional assortments (Fetească Albă, Fetească Neagră, Tămâioasă Românească) as well as international assortments (Pinot Noir, Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay etc.). All companies offered visitors numerous promotional materials and held important discussions with local importers and wine distributors. All Romanian wines presented were especially appreciated by participants, a number of companies expressing interest in future cooperation for the distribution on the Korean market.

 

Romanian wine promotion in Seoul

Continuing the promotion events for Romanian wine in the Republic of Korea, the Embassy of Romania in Seoul hosted a wine tasting on April 20th 2016, featuring the companies Budureasca and Lacerta.

Before an audience of over 40 Korean companies’ representatives, the two wine producers showcased premium wines, three are part of the Budureasca assortments (Tămâioasă Românească, Fetească Neagră, Cabernet Sauvignon) and two part of the Lacerta assortments (Burgund Royal şi Pinot Noir). The wines were praised by the participants, impressed to discover the high quality of Romanian wines.

As was the case of the previous event organized by the Embassy (on March 28th), special focus was assigned to traditional assortments which, in the opinion of participants (importers, HORECA representatives and sommeliers) have a high chance of success on the local markets.

Representatives of Budureasca and Lacerta introduced the wines and invited the audience to the SIWSE 2016 where more varieties of wine will be displayed.  

 

Romanian wine tasting in Seoul – Senator Wine

On Monday, March 28th 2016 the Romanian Embassy hosted an event introducing the Romanian wine company Senator Wine. The event was attended by over 50 Korean businessmen, mostly representing wine import and distribution companies, as well as locally renowned sommeliers. The wines introduced are wine and red traditional varieties, namely Fetească Albă, Tâmâioasă Românească, Fetească Neagră (3 types of which two are organic) and Băbească Neagră. Participants in the event had a chance to taste the wines introduced by the representative of Senator Wine and expressed their appreciation for all the wines, especially the organic brands which are being introduced to the Republic of Korea for the first time. The event was first in a series of similar wine presentations and tastings which will be organized by the Romanian Embassy this year and the next event planned is a participation in the Seoul International Wine and Spirits Exhibition which will take place between April 21st and 23rd. Romania will be represented at the SIWSE through the Romanian Economic and Commercial Promotion Bureau in Seoul and the booth will host several Romanian wine producers.

 

Romanian products exhibition - Romanian Embassy in Seoul

A small exhibition of Romanian food products opened on February 11th 2016, at the Romanian Embassy in Seoul, as part of the diplomatic mission’s efforts to intensify the promotion of Romanian traditional products on the South Korean market. With the support of local importers YEONJEWEL & INC (sparkling mineral water Borsec), DELAMORE F&B Holding (sparkling mineral water Biborțeni), WINE LAND (wines from the Săhăteni and Ceptura Wineries), as well as Romanian companies BOROMIR (pastries, pretzels, cookies, Romanian cozonac pastry), ORLANDO (peanuts, sunflower seeds) and PHOENIXY (Romanian “pufuleți” snacks), Romanian food products were introduces, recently, to the local market or are soon to be introduced to local shops. The products on display are accompanied by promotional materials featuring the Romanian companies being promoted. Also, the exhibition includes catalogs and export offers from other Romanian exporters registered with the Romanian Economic and Commercial Promotion Bureau in Seoul. The exhibition is addressed mainly to South Korean authorities, the business community, local mass-media and other diplomatic missions accredited in the Republic of Korea, who will have the opportunity to receive more information about the quality and tradition of Romanian produxt through a short visit at the exhibition. The Embassy is actively supporting Romanian companies which are aiming to enter the South Korean market and which, due to the high costs of the venture, cannot be represented more often in promotional activities in the country.
